Historical
tour of Marrakech. Founded in 1070 by the Almoravide dynasty,
Marrakech has several times been designated capital of Morocco
which explains its wealth of historical monuments, the best of
which we cover in this half day tour:
*The
Koutoubia Mosque - Morocco’s most famous mosque built in the
12th century whose minaret is regarded as symbol of Marrakech.
*The Saadien Tombs - erected
in the 16th century by the Saadien Dynasty
*The Bahia Palace - an ancient
palace where Morocco’s most famous vizirs lived
*The
Menara basin - built for military exercises in the 12th
century and used as a summer house for vizirs
-
Visit
to souks and Jamaa El Fna Square: The souks are a maze of
hundreds of shops, stalls, small streets and narrow alleyways.
This is indeed a feast for the senses with rows of spices,
perfumed oils, magic potions, silver, gold, brass, kaftans,
slippers, leather goods, carpets and rugs. This is just a
small idea of what you will find in the souks. We then proceed
to Jamaa El Fna Square where you will find thousands of people
milling around either selling, buying or just watching. This
incredible show goes on all around you at a furious pace while
story tellers continue telling their stories.
Day
3 :
-
Breakfast
buffet at the hotel.
-
Excursion
to Ourika Valley: the peaceful valley of Ourika is located
approximately fifty kilometres from the vibrant city of
Marrakech. Nestling at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains,
the small mud built houses dotted along the valley of gurgling
streams give no indication of the 20th century life. Visit an
authentic berber house which is powered by a water mill and
relax enjoying the scenery en route. Lunch at the stylish
Ramuntcho Restaurant overlooking natural habitats.
-
Return
to Marrakech at approximately four in the afternoon.
-
Rest
of the afternoon at leisure.
-
Dinner
at "CHEZ ALI" fantazia where myth and reality come
alive in this magnificient complex while a succulent dinner,
composed of Moroccan soup, roast lamb, couscous (the Moroccan
national dish) and a fruit basket is served. During dinner,
various folklore troops come to the tents to entertain the
guests. After dinner a spectacular show, including an
equestrian and laser show, highlights this unforgettable
